Your eyes are your window to the world and nothing is more important than taking care of them. Eye care and eye exams can benefit the entire family. Pediatrics is a branch of medicine that treats children and it applies to their eyes as well. For an optometrist that you can count on, contact Ingram Comprehensive Eye Care for all of your family eye care needs. We provide quality eye care for our patients in Forest Acres, Columbia, and the surrounding areas.
Children's Eye Exams
Eye care begins at birth. Your child will have his or her eyes checked in the hospital, but this is not a comprehensive eye exam. If your child is not showing any symptoms that would require an exam earlier, most eye doctors recommend that they have their first comprehensive eye exam at 6 months of age. The baby will be checked for nearsightedness and farsightedness as well as alignment of the eyes. It is important if things aren't quite right, they be diagnosed and treated early.
The next exam should be done before your child starts school. Good vision is important to success in school. Your child should be checked to make sure their vision is clear, that they are focusing correctly, have the ability to use both eyes together, and have hand-eye coordination. As a parent, you can be on the lookout for certain signs that your child may have vision issues. Do they have headaches, do they rub their eyes, hold objects close to their face to see, or tilt their head to one side? All of these may be signs of vision issues.
Adult Eye Exams
Between the ages of 19 and 40, eye exams are recommended every two years. From 41 to 64 every two years if you have no health risks or yearly if you have risks. Over 65 years old every year is the recommended exam schedule.
